Staplers and staple removers
Staplers and destaplers
A stationery stapler is an incredibly convenient invention for instantly stapling sheets of paper with metal staples. The first stapler was intended for use by royalty. With the increasing popularity of paper, this item has ceased to be a luxury and is now used in every office.
What parameters distinguish different types of staplers
- Capacity. Stapling capacity refers to the maximum number of sheets that can be stapled at the same time. It is calculated based on the density of standard printing paper - 80 g/m2. Depending on the task at hand, you can choose a pocket-sized format that fits in the palm of your hand and staples 10 sheets, or a more powerful version. 100 sheets is already a large desktop stapler capable of stapling even thick brochures.
- Stapling depth. While the first parameter is more obvious, the depth of the staple is not so often paid attention to. Nevertheless, this criterion can be important in certain cases - it sets the maximum distance from the edge of the paper to the stitching point. For small staplers, this is 25-40 mm, for desktop models - up to 95 mm.
- Staple type. This parameter is indicated in the stapler's specifications, for example, 10/5, 24/6. The first digit indicates the type of staple, which is determined by a set of characteristics, such as width and steel type. The second digit indicates the height of the staple. The higher it is, the more sheets you can staple. If you buy a high-quality stapler, you should also take care of high-quality staples of the appropriate type.
- Ergonomic body. Axent models have a stylish and comfortable design and a convenient handle shape. Exact metal staplers have a rubberised grip that prevents your hand from slipping and a rubber sole.
- Stitching type. Some models allow you to change the type of stapling from closed to open, where the staple legs are bent outward instead of inward. The open type is used for temporary stapling. The Ocean series staplers from Axent are worth paying attention to - they are equipped with the Flat-Clich function, which saves up to 25% of the space in your folders when binding.
- Built-in destapper. A very convenient detail that saves time and nerves when you need to remove a staple.
- A staple indicator window allows you to see when it's time to recharge the stapler.
Staple remover: a device for quick staple removal
While a couple of staples can still be removed without tools and without risking your own fingers, if you need to do this all the time, it is better to purchase a separate staple remover. This simple device, also called an "anti-stapler", has special metal teeth and is a great help when you need to remove a staple quickly. Pay attention to the presence of a mechanism for locking the teeth - this allows you to conveniently store your assistant in the closed position.
